Superhero Alert: Simon Baz....

It's about that time again for an epic introduction to a hero you might or might not know well. Let's get to know Green Lantern: Simon Baz!

Simon Baz:

 

As any DC Comic book reader knows, there has always been more than Green Lantern with room for many more and this is no different. Well, there is something a little different! In Simon Baz's case, he is actually the first Lebanese-American Lantern! Let's learn more about him and his story!

 

Growing up in Detroit for Baz wasn't as his story starts out, the best for he and his sister Sira. After 9//11, both were a magnet for a lot of hate due to them being Lebanese who were Muslim and the terrorist being of the same religion. It was hard on the 10 year old Simon Baz. And as if that wasn't enough, when Simon was as an adult he started to street race ( a sport where cars drive really really fast on public roads which ended up causing his brother-in-law to go into a coma) and eventually steal cars. On one day in particular, Baz found himself in his worst trouble yet as he is found himself being fired from his job. He then out of desperation steals a van that he later finds had a bomb in it. Not knowing how big it is he discovers a factory while police start to follow in hot pursuit to place where the bomb couldn't hurt anyone. The bomb explodes and the police who find him think it is out of an act of terrorism and bring him in. Talk about a cold case of bad luck! He is interrogated but that doesn't last for long as a Green Lantern ring (a ring given only to  certain people) spots him and takes him away. Away to help in a fight against Sinestro and his Third Amy set on taking over the Universe! This are crazy and overwhelming series of events for Baz but by Simon's unwilling fearlessness much like Sinestro's, defeats him and later the first Lantern! What a great story for unlikely hero!

Seems like his luck change quite quickly!

Superhero Alert: Steel of DC Comics...

 

John Henry Irons is the super powered hero Steel of DC Comics! This Man of Iron was greatly inspired from folk hero John Henry ( a steel driver who won a race against a steamed powered hammer machine) and the Man of Steel himself-- Superman!

John a genius inventor and engineer starts off his story working a corporation called AmerTrek. After realizing though his invention the BG-60, a powerful man portable energy cannon was used for evil, he destroyed the blue print and fled his job to another city called Metropolis. There, while working a construction job, ended up high on skyscraper falling off saving a friends life. However, he heroic effort not in vein because he was then saved by Superman! When asked how he could show is gratitude for the Kryptonian saving his life, Clark responded--"Live a life worth saving." It wasn't too long after that Irons would do just that.

During Superman's battle against the super villain Doomsday, he tried to return the favor by helping the Man of Steel but was buried in the rubble of this fight. Superman died thereafter. Once recovered and later finding out his design for AmerTrek was upgraded (BG-80) and used in a gang war, John Henry Irons in honor of Superman became the new Man Of Steel (which Superman later shortened to "Steel") and not destroyed the weapons (he found were given by AmerTrek known later as White Rabbit) but also the war that was going on. John's heroism would continue on leading him to land a spot of JLA (Justice League of America).

Steel's powers included battle armor that have a variety of powers like super strength, flight via jet boots, a kentic hammer (his most famous weapon), and a rivet cannon.

Female Superheroes.....

Storm. Jean Grey. Woman Wonder. Vixen. What do all of this people have in common? Well, it is pretty simple. The are all heroes! And not just any type of hero, they are female heroes, fighters of truth and justice! But unlike their male counterparts such as Superman, Batman, Wolverine, or The Hulk, they rarely get the acknowledgment that they truly deserve. And not showing appreciation for these heroines of justice, is an injustice to all and we have the power to stop it! No more will we cower in the corners of righteousness and allow this to go on any longer. Females all across the globe should have these icons to look up to on a visible level and feel they are represented in the best way. So in doing my part in this, I will make sure you all learn as much from me as you can! Thus the next time you look in the sky, you won't expect a bird or a plane or Superman, but rather the female hero you know and love, coming to save the day! Let's celebrate the female superhero together!

Super Heroine Alert: Nu'Bia sister of Wonder Woman......

Would you believe me if I said wonder woman was a twin? Would you believe more if I said her sister was an dark-skinned Amazon by the name of Nu'Bia? Well it is true! Born out of clay much like Diana herself, Nu'Bia daughter of Queen Hippolyta, was captured and raised by villain Mars in hopes of her one day taking down all of her Amazon sisters. To his demise though while both Wonder Woman and Nu'Bia fought in battle, Wonder Woman by chance was able to reflect the light of the sun via her bracelet and remove a ring her sister was wearing that clouded her mind into fighting her. Nu'Bia ended up in the end with a clear mind, defying her mentor Mars. She was then able to discover her true origins and lead her Amazon sisters into peace. Yay for Nu'Bia! And in discovering her origins, Nu'Bia found out she has quite a few things in common as well as differences with her sister Diana. For instance, like her sister Wonder Woman, she has super strength, flight, and reflexes. However, unlike her sister Diana, she can heal, has superhuman senses, and even able to read people's minds! She also has a sword that counters Wonder Woman's lasso, something that no earthly weapon can do. How awesome and crazy is that?! Do you believe me now! Sure you do! Superheroes.....

Superheroes. When you think of a superhero most likely you will think of a Superman, Batman, Spiderman, or even the Hulk.
