Recipes: Natural Flavored Water.......

Do you remember that post I posted about lemon water? Well, think of this as the next step. Move over the soda, juice, and other store bought drinks because natural flavored water is all you are going to want!

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups of fruits
  • Herbs (any kind that you like for example, mint, basil, sage, or rosemary)
  • Water
  • Ice
Supplies:
  • 2 quart pitcher or Jar with lid
  •  Muddler or wooden spoon
The basic formula when making this flavored water is to take a sprig of herbs (at most a handful) if you are using it, and bruise gently remembering not to break into pieces. Use the muddler or handle of a spoon to do this. Next add two cups of fruits that you would like to use in jar or pitcher. Press down or twist the muddler or spoon on the fruits just enough to release the juices of the fruits you are using. Fill the jar with ice and then add water. Lastly put the mixture in your handy dandy refrigerator and let it sit for one day covered. After that enjoy!

2 of my favorite combos are the watermelon + rosemary and pineapple + mint. Other good ones are: the all citrus with no herbs (1 orange, 1 lemon, and 1 lime sliced into rounds and then cut in 1/2), raspberry+ lime with no herbs ( quarter 2 limes + 2 cups of raspberries), and blackberry sage ( 2 sprigs of sage with 2 cups of blackberries).

I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as I do!

Movie Night Treat: Incredible Royal Popsicles.....

You know with all that crime fighting and epic superhero battles, you are going to need something to cool you down. Don't sweat it though because below is a treat that is quick and easy for you to enjoy so you can get right back to action!

Royal Ice Pop Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of blueberry Juice
  • 4 popsicle molds
  • Frozone (or you can use the freezer! It won't be as exciting but it works the same!)
Now we all know superheroes have sometimes foods or items that help charge them before a good episode of crime fighting like Popeye with his can of spinach or Green Lantern with his power ring. In our case we have blueberry juice! It not only tastes good but it also is healthy and you know what they say, a healthy hero is a strong hero! Now If you can get fresh blueberry juice from your close super powered friend. If you can't have your parents freshly make it or buy some from the market. Next you need Edna (you will learn who she is from the movie) to design you some special popsicle molders to pour your blueberry juice in. Lastly ask you neighbor Frozone to freeze the pops so that you can have them for backup in a battle with your arch nemesis. If he isn't home, go to plan B and put them in the freezer for 3 hours. I know it might be an eternity for you as a heroe but it is worth it! And there you have! Your formula to keep healthy and energized! Now go hero, go and watch that movie!

In the end as an attempt to ease the anger of the citizens, the super powered people by force, turn in their caps and masks to live regular lives. Fast forward 15 years into the future, Bob and Helen are living a successful "normal" life while raising their three children Violet, Dash, and baby JackJack. With their simple, normal, and easy life the ever heroic Bob Parr starts to become very very bored. It eventually leads him to once again and secretly from his wife, venture into a life of justice along with his super cool super powered friend Lucius aka Frozone! Female Superheroes.....

Storm. Jean Grey. Woman Wonder. Vixen. What do all of this people have in common? Well, it is pretty simple. The are all heroes! And not just any type of hero, they are female heroes, fighters of truth and justice! But unlike their male counterparts such as Superman, Batman, Wolverine, or The Hulk, they rarely get the acknowledgment that they truly deserve. And not showing appreciation for these heroines of justice, is an injustice to all and we have the power to stop it! No more will we cower in the corners of righteousness and allow this to go on any longer. Females all across the globe should have these icons to look up to on a visible level and feel they are represented in the best way. So in doing my part in this, I will make sure you all learn as much from me as you can! Thus the next time you look in the sky, you won't expect a bird or a plane or Superman, but rather the female hero you know and love, coming to save the day! Let's celebrate the female superhero together!

Super Heroine Alert: Nu'Bia sister of Wonder Woman......

Would you believe me if I said wonder woman was a twin? Would you believe more if I said her sister was an dark-skinned Amazon by the name of Nu'Bia? Well it is true! Born out of clay much like Diana herself, Nu'Bia daughter of Queen Hippolyta, was captured and raised by villain Mars in hopes of her one day taking down all of her Amazon sisters. To his demise though while both Wonder Woman and Nu'Bia fought in battle, Wonder Woman by chance was able to reflect the light of the sun via her bracelet and remove a ring her sister was wearing that clouded her mind into fighting her. Nu'Bia ended up in the end with a clear mind, defying her mentor Mars. She was then able to discover her true origins and lead her Amazon sisters into peace. Yay for Nu'Bia! And in discovering her origins, Nu'Bia found out she has quite a few things in common as well as differences with her sister Diana. For instance, like her sister Wonder Woman, she has super strength, flight, and reflexes. However, unlike her sister Diana, she can heal, has superhuman senses, and even able to read people's minds! She also has a sword that counters Wonder Woman's lasso, something that no earthly weapon can do. How awesome and crazy is that?! Do you believe me now! Sure you do! Go and check out more below to catch up on Nu'Bia twin sister of Wonder Woman!

Dinner With A Movie: Pizza.....

Man you are going to need something to fill that tummy when you are enjoying the movie of the week! And what better way to enjoy your movie then with a slice of homemade pizza!
Ingredients

  • Pizza dough
  • Olive Oil
  • Cornmeal (to slide pizza on pizza stone)
  • tomato sauce (puree)
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • Your choice of veggies
  • Pepperoni slices and/or your own choice of [other] meat
Preheat the oven to 450 and place baking pizza stone in for 30 minutes (preferably and hour).  With another pizza stone with a handle, sprinkle a hand full of cornmeal on the stone to make the pizza come off stone easily when sliding it onto the one in the oven. Take out pizza dough and make a crust along the edges if you don't have a pre-made pizza dough. Brush with olive oil to prevent it from getting soggy when adding toppings. Then add sauce, the cheese on, and lastly your meat and/or veggie toppings of your choosing. Open oven. Slide pizza on baking stone just after adding some cornmeal to it. Cook for 10-15 minutes! After that take it out and enjoy as you fill your tummies watching your weekend movie!

Who would have thought falling in love with a human and just wanting to spend a day warm on the sand could be so bad? Ariel sure didn't think so! In The Little Mermaid, you discover Ariel a 16 year old princess who is adventurous and fun. You also discover she has a habit of going against her father's orders. She has dreams of being part of a world out of the sea. And to be apart of it, she has to be human as she is in love with one. However, when King Triton, her father, finds out she is in love with a human named prince Eric,  he becomes very angry destroying all of her human trinkets. In return, as an effort to strike out against him, she makes a deal with a sea witch name Ursula, feeling it is her only way to truly have her wish come true of becoming human. She in the end gives up her voice in return for 3 days with prince Eric who has to fall in love with her or she belongs to Ursula.....forever! It only gets better and better after that accompanied with great songs to get you by! So grab a seat, your favorite meal, and your favorite pet fish as you sit down and watch Disney's The Little Mermaid as your weekend movie!

Time Capsule: The Proud Family....

"Proud Familyyyyy....."

By far past or present, The Proud Family was and still is one of the most funniest children's shows to date. It was surprising to see this urban themed show on the Disney Channel and for it to do so well. It proved to be a very good choice for Disney and as a result, it brought a lot of kids who didn't watch them before, running home to see what was happening in 14 year old Penny Proud's life. Penny Proud, the main character, along with her family and friends ( Dijonay, Sticky, and LaCeinega just to name a few) found themselves humorously and quite often, in a lot of situations that were common with a lot of people, but put in a very dramatic and sometimes exaggerated way. For Example, the time Penny wished her two baby siblings Bebe and Cece become teenagers so she would not have to watch them and her wish coming true. Or the time when Penny and her friends became an all female singing group and Penny became the break out star and became "all about [her]." Stories like these made the show a must watch. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, The Proud Family movie came break dancing to a TV near you and boy was it epic! Aahh... the good old days! Never mind me though! Go on a make yourselves familiar with The Proud Family as it is our second Time Capsule of the week! Enjoy the theme song below!

Books To Read: Goodnight Moon.....

Goodnight Moon by Maragret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd is a great starter book for those who are just learning how to read. In the book, it tells a simple story of a little rabbit saying goodnight to everything right before sleep. The story is as fun to read as it is to look at as you and your child are turning from page to page to see what else the little rabbit will say before sleep. I even read it to myself as I still have it from childhood! A link below will help provide you and your child with a simple and fun goodnight with Goodnight Moon!

Tip of The Week: School.....

School is right around the corner! And for many that could mean new teachers, new friends, and maybe even a new school! However, it also can mean something scary! Don't be afraid though because starting in August,  I will provide tips and helping things to help you with the countdown to school! So sit back and let's enjoy this ride together. I am sure from these tips you will be feeling like a brave new kid going to school!

Time Capsule: Sailor Moon.....

"She is the one named Sailor Moon!"

Ditzy and clumsy and most of the time a crybaby, Serena along with her talking cat Luna and allies the Sailor Scouts (Amy, Ray, Lita, and Mina + her talking cat Artemis) righted wrongs and triumphed over evils all in 30 mintues and right before school the next day! It was a treat for many to come home and watch these five battle Queen Beryl and her minions of the Negaforce! It was too long after that, that the Sailor Scouts became heroines for girls everywhere! I feel this happen because aside from their transformations from normal teenagers to crime fighting heroes, they were fearless. Even when scared, Sailor Moon along with the Scouts would find it within themselves to fight whoever was there to bring harm to those they loved and the people they were sworn to protect. For just that reason alone, Serena and the Sailor Scouts showed girls everywhere that you can be just as heroic if not more than the guys you are around. Who would have thought all of this would come out of a cartoon show full of high school girls? In spite of the unforeseen, Sailor Moon and The Sailor Scouts have become as much of pop culture as any other kid stable. So in celebration of Sailor Moon, I and UHETV kid's blog have dubbed them this week's Time Capsule of the week!

Time Capsule: ThunderCats.....

"Thundercats....Thundercats....Thundercats....hoooooo!--Lion-O"

What a classic line for a classic television show! You know, fighting Mumm-Ra and his evil legion of mutants weren't always easy but Lion-O and the Thundercats sure did make it look that way! Springing forth out of the late 80's, this show would undeniably become one of the greatest and most thrilling cartoons to date. It made its way onto Toonami (Cartoonnetwork) in the 90's and once again by Cartoonetwork in July of 2011 only this time around showing Lion-O as a teenager rather then the child turned wielder of the Sword of Omens as in the original. As a result, the remake re-introduced the Thundercats to a newer audience, bringing it back into the spotlight and gathering new fans. And boy did it help! However, whether you are a new fan or an old one I think if you really want to get familiar with how it all started you should definitely start with the oldies! I am sure you will like it. As they say an oldie is still a goodie!

What to Watch: Regular Show.....

The Regular Show is one of the most funniest and off the wall cartoon shows out today. The two main characters Mordecai and Rigby, seem to always find themselves tangled in a series of unfortunate events whenever working for their boss, a candy machine named Benson. Who would think that being sucked through a phone to compete in an game show or fighting a flock of "grown geese" with the help of four power ranger like "baby ducks" would be in one day's work? Not me and surely not them! Plots like this however, will have you hooked and watching for hours. And that is something I wouldn't mind.  In short, if you like to get a good laugh, discover a new crazy catch phrase like hamboning, or just watch an off the wall adventure, watch the Regular Show on Cartoonetwork!
