Superhero Alert: Simon Baz....

It's about that time again for an epic introduction to a hero you might or might not know well. Let's get to know Green Lantern: Simon Baz!

Simon Baz:

As any DC Comic book reader knows, there has always been more than Green Lantern with room for many more and this is no different. Well, there is something a little different! In Simon Baz's case, he is actually the first Lebanese-American Lantern! Let's learn more about him and his story!

Growing up in Detroit for Baz wasn't as his story starts out, the best for he and his sister Sira. After 9//11, both were a magnet for a lot of hate due to them being Lebanese who were Muslim and the terrorist being of the same religion. It was hard on the 10 year old Simon Baz. And as if that wasn't enough, when Simon was as an adult he started to street race ( a sport where cars drive really really fast on public roads which ended up causing his brother-in-law to go into a coma) and eventually steal cars. On one day in particular, Baz found himself in his worst trouble yet as he is found himself being fired from his job. He then out of desperation steals a van that he later finds had a bomb in it. Not knowing how big it is he discovers a factory while police start to follow in hot pursuit to place where the bomb couldn't hurt anyone. The bomb explodes and the police who find him think it is out of an act of terrorism and bring him in. Talk about a cold case of bad luck! He is interrogated but that doesn't last for long as a Green Lantern ring (a ring given only to  certain people) spots him and takes him away. Away to help in a fight against Sinestro and his Third Amy set on taking over the Universe! This are crazy and overwhelming series of events for Baz but by Simon's unwilling fearlessness much like Sinestro's, defeats him and later the first Lantern! What a great story for unlikely hero!

Seems like his luck change quite quickly!

If you want to to get your hands on this Green Lantern after this amazing post then you are at the right post!

Action Figure:

Were a shirt in his and other Green Lantern's honor!

Fun Facts: Dr. Seuss Invents "The Nerd".....

Dr. Seuss has created "cats" and "hats" and "Sam I Am" eating that famous "green eggs and ham" but did you know he created a....NERD!

That's right! In 1950 in the book "If I Ran The Zoo," Dr. Seuss created that word this tells of an intelligent minded person who has a knack for an oh-so special certain something they love! And with this being true, did you know in the book however, it was used to describe a small animal from the land of Ka-Troo?! Yup! How surpising!

If I Ran The Zoo!

In this book it tells of a kid name Gerald McGrew who visits the zoo and feel the exotic animals there aren't "exotic enough." So he instead imagines the type of animals he would bring once he let's all of the current animals out and new "more exotic" animals in:"And then, just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-Troo/And bring back an It-Kutch, a Prep, and a Proo/ A Nerkle, a Nerd, and a Seersucker too!"-- Gerald McGrew. Imagine if all of those animals where real, they sure would have some crazy names now wouldn't they?!

I bet you are wondering, "how can I read this book it looks and sounds like fun?! Well,  luckily for you can you can head to this zoo right before going to Ka-Troo and see all the wild and crazy animals like It-Kutch, Prep, and a Proo/ A Nerkle, a Nerd, and a Seersucker too! Just take a look below and look-see-and-hear McGrew's Zoo with the downloadable book and read and listen edition for your smart device below!!!

Bewitched by this finding, he concludes he will try his bones at this thing called Christmas though, he knows very little of it. Sally, a rag-doll who is in love with Jack, tries to steer him away from the idea fearing that it will only end up in disaster but, he in his excitement, doesn't listen. As a result he sends Lock, Shock, and Barrel (three mischievous kids) out to get Santa Claus to find out more about this holiday. However, instead of bringing Santa back to him Lock, Shock, and Barrel bring him back to Oogie Boogie a gambling bogeyman who shakes things up for Jack Skellington as he decides to play a game... with Santa's life on the line! Author's Spotlight: April Chu.....

Author's Spotlight: April Chu!

You know, everyone has great talents. Some people can sing, others can dance, some are really great at solving problems while there are those that are very skilled at putting things together like a director or a script writer! April Chu's moreover, happens to be a talent of being really good at illustrating and storytelling! April Chu, an architect with a degree in Architeture from the University of California, is not only great at using her abilities for business, she is also brilliant at using her abilites of illustrating and storytelling for books and poems! Here is her story:

As April puts it, her first memories of this great talent started when she was just a little girl. "One of my most vivid and earliest memories as a young child was my drawing of an old man on a stool." Amazed at [my] work [ I ] showed it to her grandmother. [My] grandmother in amazement of this life like drawing showed [my] mother. "Did you know your daughter could draw?!" she stated. Both were very impressed. That approval was all Amy needed because after that, April Chu fell in love with her new found gift. As much as she could, she as a result would draw. Everyday after watching cartoons, she would draw and create her own characters and stories, filling up her school notebooks with her "outlandish" designs! And with those outlandish design, she would continue drawing and drawing allowing herself to perfect her gift which propelled her to do many great things!

One of those things happening to be her becoming a member of SCBWI (Society of Children Book Writers and Illustrators). The other is her illustrating two books both of which will be out in the spring and fall of 2014! And all that from just one doodle. How Cool is that?! Very cool if you ask me! April has definitely come a long way from doodling in her notebooks and watching cartoons on television! And because she has come a long way, it teaches all of us a valuable lesson: Dreams and talents can take you far; all you have to do is believe in yourself and what you are good at. From there no one can shake or break your spirit. Take a note or two even a doodle from our Author/Illusrator in the spotlight: April Chu!

Recipes: Halloween Whoopie Pies, Cameral Apples, and Wtich's Brew.....

Hello Everyone!!!!

Spooky times are approaching! And it will be fun! I  know you just can't wait for all the fun that is going to happen on the spooktacular day October 31st! And I am sure your appetite for excitement is going to be just as hungry as your appetite to eat and you know you can't go trick or treating on an empty stomach! So what I have done is found three recipes to help when this day comes.....muhahahaha!!!

Halloween Whoopie Pies:

For this recipe you will need:
  • unsweetened coco powder
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • all purpose flour
  • unsalted butter
  • veggie shortening
  • sugar
  • eggs
  • vanilla
  • light brown sugar
  • milk
  • orange/yellow sprinkles
  • meringue buttercream
After you combine all the ingredients and put it in a pit of fire for a good ol' 30 minutes, this recipe is good to serve about a good 32 ghost, ghouls, vampires, and witches. For the complete recipe click here: Whoopie Pies!

Cameral Apples
Now this recipe came from a tall and quite hair great and quite talkative were wolf of a traveling circus who happens to be a great cook that posted his recipe online. He said he got from so old woman selling red apples to a maiden by the name of Snow White and it was to....die for (cue the dramatic piano) !!!

For this recipe you will need:
  • 6 mediums apples (not the red kinds trust me you will thank me later)
  • wooden skewers
  • sugar
  • light corn syrup
  • sweetened condensed milk
  • salt
  • vanilla
  • optional: sprinkles, nuts, or chopped candy!
I tried this myself and it was ghously good! The recipe is fairly easy and is right here: Apples! Red apples and old ladies in black hooded dresses are not to be taken from! If you are not a ghost already, try not to be one if you get my drift.....
Witch's Brew:
And speaking of witches, this a brew from a witch you can trust......

You will need:
  • black cherry gelatin
  • boiling water
  • orange gelatin
  • boiling water
  • blueberries
  • kool-aid
Now if you feel yourself unskilled or need assistance called on a witch you know. This brew is a classic brew and they should be familiar with it. Besides they can brew just about anything! Click here for recipe: Brew!

For all your ingredient findings and more I put below two free apps to use when doing so:

Happy cooking.......
